Anthony Heinrichs - Trumpet
Anthony Heinrichs was born in Perth in 1970, and began studying trumpet
at the age of 10. From 1983 to 1987, Anthony studied trumpet under Kim Harrison at Hale School and was a winner of the school's Garland Music Prize in 1986 and 1987, and the Pilgrim Trumpet Prize from 1983-1987.
At the age of 14, he became one of the youngest members of the West Australian Youth Orchestra brass section, and in 1989 became Principal Trumpet, a position he would hold for the next 4 years.
In 1988, Anthony commenced his tertiary studies at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Kevin Johnson, and received his Bachelor of Music(performance) degree in 1991.During this time, Anthony was a soloist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in the "Trumpet Concerto" of Aratunian, gave the Australian premier of the "Dialogue" for Trumpet and Orchestra by Wayne Senior, and often played with the WASO.
In 1990, Anthony joined the Australian Youth Orchestra, and in 1991 he became Principal Trumpet of the AYO, as well as becoming the first Principal Trumpet of Camerata Australia. Between the years 1990 to 1993, Anthony played and toured with these orchestras in all Australian capital cities, as well as the USA, Venezuela, Brazil, Indonesia and Japan.
Anthony moved from Perth in 1993 to continue his studies with Daniel Mendelow at the Canberra School of Music, and was the Principal Trumpet of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 1994.
In 1994, Anthony was Principal Trumpet at the Pacific Music Festival, in Sapporo, Japan, studying and playing with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and London Symphony orchestras.
Since joining the Sydney Symphony in 1995, Anthony has played and toured with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Saarbrucken Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1999, Anthony took a years leave from the Sydney Symphony and undertook advanced studies with Professor Reinhold Friedrich in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Anthony has been a member of the teaching staff at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Newcastle Conservatorium of music, and is currently teaching at St. Andrews Cathedral School, Sydney.
In addition to his performances with the Sydney Symphony, Anthony is a member of Sydney Brass, and in 2003, gave the World Premier of the "Trumpet Concerto" by Joe Wolfe, which was written for him. Anthony has performed as Principal Cornet for Opera Australia and as a featured soloist in 2005 and 2006 at the Arcadia Music Festival. In 2006 and 2007, Anthony has given concerto performances within the Sydney metro area, and in 2008 will be a featured artist in the Visiting Artist Programme at Hale School, Western Australia.
