The New Sydney Wind Quintet was founded by Bridget Bolliger in 2004 and unites some of Australia's finest wind players, each with rich international experience and acclaim. Based at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the NSWQ made its debut in 2004 at the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel in Manly which was recorded by the ABC and later broadcast on Swiss National Radio. This event was made possible through the help and support of Albert Mehr, the former Swiss Consul General in Australia.
In 2005, the NSWQ continued to build a fine reputation in Sydney and throughout Australia, culminating in a successful concert tour of China.
With a broad and colourful repertoire – encompassing Mozart, Danzi, Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Ravel, Nielsen, Ligeti and Gershwin, 2006 and 2007 saw the NSWQ further develop into one of the nation's leading wind ensembles with regular performances for the ABC and Musica Viva, and the launch of its first commercial CD with a World Premier recording of Ross Edward's "Incantations".
With unique personality and charm, the award-winning members of the New Sydney Wind Quintet convey to audiences a palpable enthusiasm for their craft.
