Born in Mauritius and raised in Australia, pianist Jean-Bernard Marie received his early training at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Josephine Bell and Igor Hmelnitsky. He later moved to Paris, where he studied under Ventsislav Yankoff at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, graduating with the prestigious Premier Prix. He continued his development in London under the legendary Geoffrey Parsons before launching an international performing career.
Renowned for his versatility, Jean-Bernard Marie performs widely as a soloist, Lieder accompanist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist. His concert appearances include major venues and festivals across Europe, Australia, and the Americas.
In the United Kingdom, he has appeared at the Cheltenham Festival, Spitalfields Festival, Wigmore Hall, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (in solo, vocal, and chamber recitals), and the Royal Albert Hall with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In France, his performances include Salle Gaveau, Salle Cortot, and Salle Pleyel.
In Australia, he has performed at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist with Synergy Percussion, and given a solo recital at Sydney Town Hall for the Sydney Summer Festival.
International engagements include the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Teatro Pro Arte Lirico in Havana, venues in Spain broadcast live on RTVE, and the Prague Spring Festival.
Jean-Bernard Marie has performed widely for radio audiences across Australia, the USA, Europe, and Asia. His discography includes recordings for Radio France, as well as CD releases featuring Czech composers and solo recital recordings.
